Young people face up to the past

In the “Remembering” multimedia project young Israelis and Germans tackle their family histories.

www.remembering.today is the name of the project that writer and director Marion Ram developed over the course of more than two years. To this end, 18 young people from Israel and Germany have since July 2015 been researching the history of their grandparents or great-grandparents. They are searching for answers to questions such as: What meaning does the Shoah have for me today? What conclusions should I draw from it? The participants present their insights and reflections on what they have done in film clips, texts and photos. A team of historians and journalists is busy supporting them, helping clarify things, putting the finger on problems and prompting debate. In addition, renowned authors have guested with their own contributions.

Since 26 July www.remembering.today has been online and is growing steadily. On 28 October the site’s content will be presented at the Jerusalem Cinematheque and on 9 November at the Alabama-Kino in Hamburg.

The project run by ABC Bildungs- und Tagungszentrum in cooperation with Beit Ben-Yehuda is sponsored among others by the German Federal Foreign Office, ConAct and Deutsch-Israelische Gesellschaft e.V.
