Portraits of German Makkabi Athletes

Jüdisches Museum Berlin presents 12 competitors of the Europan Makkabi Games, with photographs by Stephan Pramme.

Jüdisches Museum Berlin runs a blog. Which makes sense, as one of the focal points of the museum’s work is the present, or, to be precise, the time from 1945 to the present. In recent years, the team of curators has concentrated ever more strongly on current events, something the collection now documents in a variety of ways. The contemporary genre of a blog really fits well here.

This is also the case with the project for the European Maccabi Games 2015, which takes place exclusively on the museum’s blogsite. On each day of the Games, curators Theresia Ziehe and Tamar Lewinsky will present one of the athletes from Berlin in the form of a short interview. These male and female athletes will be representing the German delegation at the largest Jewish sports festival in Europe. The interviews will be accompanied by images produced by photographer Stephan Pramme. All 12 interviews and portraits were made on the Turn- und Sportverein Makkabi Berlin grounds.
