Israelis view Germany positively
A new poll has found that Israelis really appreciate Germany – with this encompassing the latter's chancellor, policies and products.
A majority of the Israelis view Germany positively. That is the finding of a poll conducted by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in December 2014. The Foundation contacted more than 1,000 Israelis on the telephone.
68% of the respondents stated that they have a positive or even very positive opinion of Germany. This result ranked Germany number one among the European countries in terms of their popularity in Israel.
An even greater percentage – 70% - of the respondents gave high to very high marks to Angela Merkel, Germany's chancellor.
62% of the respondents subscribed to the following statement: “Germany's government is dedicating itself to achieving a lasting peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians.” In accordance with this, somewhat more than half of the persons polled consider Germany to be an “honest broker” among the parties involved in the strife in the Middle East.
The poll found “Made in Germany” to be a synonym for quality in Israel as well. The poll discovered that 69% of the respondents reported purchasing and using German products.
The enduring nature of Israel's appreciation for Germany is revealed by comparing the results of the latest and those of the previous polls carried out by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. December 2014's 68% positive view of Germany was only marginally different than the 67% and 65% recorded in 2007 and 2009 respectively.
The Konrad Adenauer Foundation carried out the poll in conjunction with the pollster KEEVOON Strategies, Research and Communications.
