Green light for start-ups

New entrepreneurs are the focus of the “Exist Start-up Germany – Israel” programme.

On 29 June in Tel Aviv Brigitte Zypries, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, cut the ribbon launching the new innovation programme “Exist Start-up Germany – Israel”. The event was attended by countless distinguished guests including seven university presidents and vice presidents from Germany, the presidents of both the DIHK, the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and the German-Israeli Chamber of Industry and Commerce, as well as the ambassadors of both nations.

The objective of the new programme is to strengthen German-Israeli cooperation in the fields of innovation and science, with the emphasis on start-ups. “We want to intensify German-Israeli interaction in the field of start-ups, too,” Zypries stated. “I am therefore very happy that together with our Israeli partners, the Betatec initiative launched by the German-Israeli Chamber of Industry and Commerce and Tel Aviv University’s StarTau initiative, we have managed to expand the successful Exist programme to include an international component.”

Israel is the first country to partner the German Exist programme, which has been in place since 2007, is organized by the universities of Berlin and Potsdam, lead managed by Technische Universität Berlin and supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. Exist supports students, graduates and scientists in universities and research institutes throughout Germany in realizing innovative start-ups. In the form of “Exist Start-up Germany – Israel”, the programme now addresses young Israelis in the fields of science and research, encouraging them to develop their business ideas.
