Music: One language, many dialects

Andreas Scholl meets Idan Raichel: Two musical heavyweights meet in Israel.

Musicians Idan Raichel and Andreas Scholl first performed together on stage at Rykestrasse Synagogue in Berlin. Their musical backgrounds could not be more different: Idan Raichel has become a celebrated star of world music with a fusion of Electronic, songs on Biblical texts, and Arabic and Ethiopian music. Andreas Scholl is one of the world’s best countertenors, specialising in Baroque Classical music.

And yet they share the common language of music. In November, the two musicians are playing two concerts together in the popular Zappa Clubs in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. The events are at the same time final concerts marking the conclusion of the year 2015, which has seen diverse celebrations of 50 years of German-Israeli diplomatic relations.
