Mobile Ideas for Tomorrow

German-Israeli school competition seeks creative minds with a keen sense of sustainability.

The future concerns us all. So why should youngsters with trailblazing ideas for the future have to wait until they grow up before they can make themselves heard? The Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael – Jewish National Fund, which is Israel’s biggest and oldest environmental protection organization, asked itself just that. And got down to brass tacks. Without further ado the organization launched the competition “Mobile Ideas for Tomorrow”, which is aimed at pupils in year 7 and upwards, both in Israel and in Germany. In teams of two or four people, the youngsters have until 15 October 2015 to apply with an exciting idea for a project on sustainable mobility. The winners will get to travel to the respective other country for one week.

“For us, there are two key issues to the competition, namely environmental protection and fostering exchange between Germany and Israel,” explains Schaul Chorev of the Jewish National Fund. Which is why the initiators and benefactors of the competition attach great importance to the fact that the teams will find out about the other country. With regard to this and any questions they may have regarding the competition, participating pupils can get advice and answers from the competition Website.

The main cooperation partners of “Mobile Ideas for Tomorrow” are the German Federal Foundation for the Environment and Michelin-Reifenwerke Germany. Numerous other institutions are supporting the competition, including Bayerischer Jugendring, the Israeli Embassy in Germany, the Jewish Community in Düsseldorf, the Leonardo hotel group, Raue LLP solicitors’ office, the firm Bresser as well as the Green Screen and Ecocinema film festivals. In North Rhine-Westphalia additional support is being provided by the Ministry of Education and Further Education (MSW) and the campaign “Schule der Zukunft – Bildung für Nachhaltigkeit” (School of the future – education for sustainability).

Application deadline: 15 October 2015.

Closing date for submission of projects: 29 February 2016.
