Wanted: Ideas for health

At the World Health Summit 2015 in Berlin, start-ups can apply to take part and network at the highest level.

Since being established in 2009, the World Health Summit (WHS) has attracted some 10,000 participants from all over the world. Thus, the annual conference of the so-called M8 Alliance has become a significant voice when it comes to the worldwide improvement of human wellbeing. The Alliance, which originally started with eight founding members, including the Charité university teaching hospital in Berlin, has expanded to form a network of 18 leading international universities and research institutes. National science academies from 67 countries cooperate with the WHS.

When experts from the fields of science, medicine, economics and politics meet in Berlin once again from 11 to 13 October 2015, there will be a new initiative, namely the WHS Startup Track. Founders working on developing innovative ideas and business concepts in the fields of healthcare, diagnosis or treatment have until 10 August to apply. “Innovation is the driving force for improving human wellbeing,” write the summit organizers. Startup Track reflects this idea. In the context of the initiative, start-ups selected by a jury are therefore given an opportunity to present their ideas to the expert audience in Berlin and to network.

The competition is open to founders from all over the world. Given that 2015 is also the year in which Germany and Israel are celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations, start-ups with a connection to Germany and/or Israel are expressly encouraged to apply.
